Haemodialysis Service

Haemodialysis Service Managed by KPS

St. John Ambulance Malaysia – Kawasan Pantai Selangor (SJAM-KPS) started the first Haemodialysis Centre in Klang with two dialysis machines, each donated by the management of Klang Port Authority (LPK) and Klang Port Management (KPM) in late 1993. The dialysis service is offered only to patients from the low and middle income group.

In the early stage, due to financial constraints, the service runs on self-care concept, meaning the patients do their dialysis treatment after attaining training and treatment at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital ‘s Haemodialysis Centre.

In view of the increasing number of patients seeking dialysis treatment, SJAM-KPS Haemodialysis Service organized a big fund-raising campaign in 1996 to raise fund for a major renovation to expand the existing premise now known as Station 01.  The move led to additional 8 dialysis machines donated by the corporate & public sector.

Station 02 Reverse Osmosis System

An increase in patients and machines also saw the employment of its 1st qualified staff and two nursing aids to not only provide quality service to patients but also to run the service professionally and efficiently, although this meant additional expenditure.
To date, we have more than 230 full-time staff running the Administration, 24 Hr Ambulance Service, Haemodialysis Service & Public First-Aid Training.
More staff will be recruited as our services expand.

Today we are proud to operate 13 dialysis centers nationwide with more than 230 dialysis machines and more than 800 dialysis patients under our care. Another 3 centers will be set-up within the next 2 to 3 years and mostly will be in the rural areas as our belief is to bring the service to them rather than they coming to us thus cutting down their expenses & traveling time.

In late 2001, we decided that ISO 9001 : 2000 be achieved for the Administration, Haemodialysis Service, Ambulance Service.

On March 2002, we achieved the ISO 9001 : 2000 and entered into the Malaysia Book of Records with 2 records namely 1st NGO & 1st NGO Haemodialysis Service respectively to receive ISO 9001 : 2000

This ISO 9001:2000 was upgraded to 9001: 2008 in August 2010 to ensure more stringent quality service and in 2018 the ISO was further upgraded to ISO 9001: 2015

The purpose for the ISO is to ensure quality service, efficient & systematic operation.

In 14th October 2016, Yayasan St. John Ambulans Malaysia – Kawasan Pantai Selangor took over the Haemodialysis operations. Why Yayasan?

2013 M.O.U. Signing between I Medic Group Sdn, Bhd.

Background The Private Healthcare Facilities And Service Act 1998 and its regulation (‘the ACT’) requires that only nurses and medical assistants with a certificate in Post Basic in Haemodialysis Nursing be allowed to attend to patients receiving haemodialysis treatment. With the implementation of the Act in 2011, SJAM-KPS faces problem in signing up its nurses for such course as there is a shortage of places by accredited institution that provide such training. About MOU With the signing of MOU, i Medic will be able to provide teaching and training in Post Basic in Haemodialysis Nursing to 30 nurses a year. Nurses in SJAM-KPS will benefit from the knowledge gained in the training and will also have better career prospect with the added qualification. SJAM-KPS wishes the community to note that it has taken pro-active step in solving the shortage of institution that can provide accredited training in post basic in renal. Rather than passively wait for allocation of training places to nurses of SJAM-KPS, SJAM-KPS has found solution with this cooperation with I Medic. SJAM-KPS is also pleased that it is one step closer in fulfilling all the requirements of the Act.

2016 Bintulu Groundbreaking

RM6-million building largest SJAM-KPS centre in country

BINTULU: A new double-storey building to house the St John Ambulance Malaysia – Kawasan Pantai Selangor Foundation (SJAM-KPS) haemodialysis centre will be built in Bintulu to cater to the increasing number of haemodialysis patients in the town and  surrounding areas. Commander-In-Chief of St John Ambulance Malaysia Datuk Dr Low Bin Tick said once completed, this new haemodialysis centre will have a capacity of 84 dialysis machines to cater to 320 patients. The construction of the centre at a cost of RM6 million is expected to commence sometime early next year upon approval from Bintulu Development Authority (BDA). Low said this will be the second SJAM-KPS dialysis complex in Sarawak after its first centre in Sibu. He said the Bintulu centre–the foundation’s tenth centre–started operations on February 1, 2007 in three rented shop lots from BDA and presently operates with 13 dialysis machines catering up to maximum of 72 end-stage kidney patients. However with the new complex, they will be able to provide better service and accommodate more patients. “The earth-clearing work at the site will start next month and construction is expected to be completed within 18 months,” he told a press conference here Thursday before the ground-breaking ceremony for the new building. Minister of Public Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom was present to officiate at the ground-breaking ceremony, representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem. 2019 SJAM-KPS Patient’s Day

In conjunction with Dialysis Patient’s Day and Chinese New Year, St John Ambulans Malaysia – Kawasan Pantai Selangor Headquarters (SJAM-KPS Foundation) hosted a luncheon. About 300 patients gathered in Putra Ballroom, Klang Executive Club, to celebrate the festive occasion. “The patients were brought to this gathering to nurture fellowship among them, and receive moral support,” said SJAM-KPS Foundation chief operating officer Datuk Yeo Kim Thong. Before the lunch, the god of Prosperity made a special appearance, giving blessings and ushering VIP guests to their respective seats. St John Ambulans Malaysia commander-in-chief Datuk Lai See Ming thanked donors for their support. “There are more than 250 dialysis machines in Malaysia to treat more than 600 patients, all because of your helping hand,” he said. While lunch was being served, patients took turns singing on stage. Before the luncheon ended, the patients received ang pow from the VIP guests and donors. SJAM-KPS Foundation is planning to open a new dialysis centre in Bintulu, Sarawak, to relocate its existing dialysis centre over there.
